چکیده

We consider the replica placement problem: given a graph with clients and nodes, place replicas on a minimum set of nodes to serve all the clients; each client is associated with a request and maximum distance that it can travel to get served and there is a maximum limit (capacity) on the amount of request a replica can serve. The problem falls under the general framework of capacitated set covering. It admits an O(log n)approximation and it is NP-hard to approximate within a factor of o(log n). We study the problem in terms of the treewidth t of the graph and present anO(t)-approximation algorithm.

Replica Placement on Directed Acyclic Graphs

The replica placement problem has been well studied on trees. In this paper, we study this problem on directed acyclic graphs. The replica placement problem on general DAGs generalizes the set cover problem. We present a constant factor approximation algorithm for the special case of DAGs having bounded degree and bounded tree-width (BDBT-DAGs). We also present a constant factor approximation a...

Bounded Treewidth Graphs – A Survey German Russian Winter School St. Petersburg, Russia

This survey gives an introduction to the class of bounded treewidth graphs, for which many NP-complete problems can be solved efficiently. The concept of a tree decomposition is explained. Subclasses of the bounded treewidth graphs are identified. Results about finding tree decompositions are summarized. Some problems which are efficiently solvable on bounded treewidth graphs are listed and alg...

Restricted Space Algorithms for Isomorphism on Bounded Treewidth Graphs

The Graph Isomorphism problem restricted to graphs of bounded treewidth or bounded tree distance width are known to be solvable in polynomial time [2],[19]. We give restricted space algorithms for these problems proving the following results: • Isomorphism for bounded tree distance width graphs is in L and thus complete for the class. We also show that for this kind of graphs a canon can be com...

Algorithms for Graphs of (Locally) Bounded Treewidth

Many real-life problems can be modeled by graph-theoretic problems. These graph problems are usually NP-hard and hence there is no efficient algorithm for solving them, unless P= NP. One way to overcome this hardness is to solve the problems when restricted to special graphs. Trees are one kind of graph for which several NP-complete problems can be solved in polynomial time. Graphs of bounded t...

Planar Graphs and Partial k-Trees

It is well-known that many NP-hard problems can be solved efficiently on graphs of bounded treewidth. We begin by showing that Knuth’s results on nested satisfiability are easily derived from this fact since nested satisfiability graphs have treewidth at most three. Noting that nested satisfiability graphs have a particular form of planar drawing, we define a more general form of graph drawing ...
